Football: England Under 21s struggle in Denmark

The England Under 21s have taken a leaf out of the senior side's book with their performances thus far in European Under 21 Championship in Denmark. Ranked among the favourites, Stuart Pearce's side have looked laboured and short of ideas.

Apart from Manchester United newboy Phil Jones and the lively Daniel Sturridge, there has been little to smile about. Meanwhile, their Spanish counterparts have looked every inch the future replacements for Xavi, Andres Iniesta et al. In short, both teams seem fit to follow in the footsteps of their current senior sides.

England have a final chance to save themselves against the Czechs in their last group game on Sunday. Only a win will do. If they fall short, yet more scrutiny will fall on the country's shortcomings in international competitions.
